On 20 June 1990 at 21:00 UTC, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck Iran (Rasht, Qazvin), at a depth of 19 km. It occurred on the Eurasian Plate, 451 km from its boundary with the Arabian Plate (continental transform fault). It killed at least 40,000 people and injured 105,000. 100,000 homes were destroyed. It is the 14th deadliest of the earthquakes recorded since 1900.
