    On 2 April 2024 at 23:58 UTC, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Taiwan (Hua-Lien), at a depth of 40 km. It occurred on the Philippine Sea Plate, 50 km from its boundary with the Okinawa Plate (continental transform fault). It killed at least 18 people and injured 1,155. 111 homes were destroyed.
