On 9 August 1912 at 01:29 UTC, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck Turkey (Marmara Sea), at a depth of 15 km. It occurred on the Anatolian Plate, 13 km from its boundary with the Eurasian Plate (continental rift). It killed at least 2,800 people and injured 7,000. 24,700 homes were destroyed. It is the 78th deadliest of the earthquakes recorded since 1900.
