On 12 January 1914, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Japan (Sakurijima). It occurred on the Okinawa Plate, 48 km from its boundary with the Amur Plate (continental rift). It killed at least 63 people (including tsunami victims) and injured 112. 2,268 homes were destroyed.
